Who Is Deku's Dad, Hisashi Midoriya? Is He a Villain? (2023)

It’s quite typical for a shonen protagonist to be without one or both of his or her parents, as this gives the protagonist greater freedom. After all, what parent would willingly allow their child to put their lives in danger or embark on insane adventures? With how little we know about Deku’s father, many wonder if Hisashi Midoriya is a villain?

Canonically Hisashi Midoriya left his family while Deku was still young to take a job overseas and we don’t get much more explanation or information about the character.

However, a recent announcement has solidified Deku’s father’s return to the series, and since it is unlikely that he will have no dramatic role in the series this article will explore the character and his possible roles in the series. So, if you want to find out more, keep reading.

Who is Deku's dad Hisashi Midoriya?

Who Is Deku's Dad, Hisashi Midoriya? Is He a Villain? (1)

Hisashi Midoriya is Izuku’s father’s name. Hisashi is currently working in another country. When Izuku’s mother, Inko, takes him to Dr. Tsubasa, this revelation occurs.

She adds that her spouse is stationed in another country. Despite this, Inko still refers to Hisashi as her husband, implying that they are not divorced.

Another theory is that Hisashi abandoned the mother and kid soon after Izuku was born. Going to the doctor to find out what their child’s peculiarity seems to be a big deal. As a result, Hisashi’s absence while Izuku was so young just raises suspicion.

We may infer Hisashi abandoned Inko and Izuku when Izuku was quite young since they went to the doctor alone when Izuku was four. Inko continues to refer to him as her husband, implying that they are still married.

Furthermore, it has been noted that when Izuku’s mother, Inko, mentions him, she appears to be upset. There may be a personal issue inside the family, which indicates a larger issue with his absence.

Hisashi’s mother claims that he is overseas to protect her son’s feelings, and there are even suspicions that he has gone missing. This might be accurate, given that Izuku never communicates with his father.

When Izuku gets his Hero license in Season 3, he presents it to his mother and All Might but never mentions his father. Hisashi is the same way since he never tries to contact Izuku’s family, even after he is seriously hurt.

The name “Hisashi” is a pun on the Japanese term “hisashiburi,” which means “long time, no see.” After all this time, the fanbase would erupt in anger if Hisashi Midoriya appeared out of nowhere and merely made the classic “absentee anime parent shrug while scratching his head” motion.

Given that his mother is constantly suffering heart attacks as a result of Deku ruining his body, referring to Papa Midoriya as a casual, carefree man is actually very amusing.

When you combine him with Deku’s overly cautious mother, you have the ideal mix of parenting approaches for Deku’s upbringing. The name “Hisashi” alluded to the idea that it was probably best for Deku that his father wasn’t around to influence him since anime characters are known for having names that symbolize specific traits that define their identity.

As disclosed by Inko to the doctor at the start of the series, Hisashi’s Quirk allows him to breathe fire. His Quirk’s power level is unknown, but since his vocation is heroics, his Fire Breath must be rather potent. Inko’s Quirk allows her to float tiny items but is incompatible with heroism. The power to breathe fire has a limited number of applications, and it’s possible that this feature alone influenced Hisashi’s decision to pursue a certain professional path.

Is Hisashi Midoriya a villain?

Although many fans have speculated on the identity of Deku’s father and whether we had seen him in the series already, the truth is there is no clear answer to this question.

There were quite a few clues left in the series which eventually led to fans coming up with quite a few ideas regarding HisashiMidoriya. One of the most popular theories regarding this question, the one that says that Deku’s father is a villain will be discussed later on in this article, but despite how convincing these theories sound, the truth is that we can’t confirm any of them.

The only thing we know for sure and that was confirmed in the series is the fact thatHisashiMidoriya was gone and that he is working overseas.

That being said, Deku’s father returning to the series as a villain would be a brilliant twist and would actually work with the direction the series is going for, which is why it shouldn’t be written off just yet.

Is Deku’s dad abusive?

There is no canonical answer to this question, however, quite a few people have theorized about this based on a single scene.

While Deku is being yelled at by All Might while on a beach he swings his hand forward and Deku flinches. This leads many fans to believe he was abused by someone in his life.

However, there is no other evidence to support this theory and many have pointed out that this could be a reaction to getting yelled at which is why this scene shouldn’t be taken seriously.

Is Deku’s dad one for all?

One question that has been lingering in the minds of fans for a long time Is Deku’s Father a one-man army? Since Izuku was 4 when they consulted Dr. Tsubasa, Hisashi Midoriya has been gone from Izuku and Inko’s lives for at least 8 years.

It hasn’t been confirmed whether Hisashi paid them a visit, but if he didn’t, it raises suspicions. Shigaraki, or All For One, has been on the run for a long time, stealing all the Quirks he can.

This might explain why Izuku’s father has been absent from his life for so long. Perhaps Hisashi viewed Inko as an opportunity to have his own children.

It’s also possible that Hisashi or All For One’s current situation is the reason he doesn’t return to his family. All For One, as you may recall, battled All Might five years before he fought him in Season 3.

All For One’s face was scarred in this struggle, and All Might was getting closer to death. All For One has been known to wear Darth Vader-style headgear since then.

Mangaka Horikoshi is a great admirer of the Star Wars saga, which may come as a surprise to some. This might indicate that Izuku and All For One will likely have a father-son reunion similar to Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker.

There’s a hypothesis that the physicians for Deku and All For One are the same. Dr. Tsubasa, who first appears inMy Hero Academia, has an uncanny resemblance to Dr. Ujiko, All For One’s right-hand man.

Looking at their cog-shaped spectacles, nose, and mustache verified this. Dr. Tsubasa also had a scuff over his right eyebrow that served as an identification mark.

Whenever Dr. Ujiko appears in the manga, this mark is obscured. It’s conceivable that Izuku has a latent quirk, but Dr. Tsubasa took it away for All For One.

This rendered Izuku odd, implying that the portion about Izuku having a double-jointed pinky was fabricated. Furthermore, the Voice Actor for Dr. Tsubasa and Dr. Ujiko is the same.

Dr. Ujiko’s real name is Maruta Shiga, as was revealed later. This is a term having a severe connotation, as Maruta Shiga refers to the victims of World War II experimentation.

He was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jaku General Hospital. While he did volunteer for a charity performance, the hospital has its own closed-off ward.

This ward is recognized for Nomu’s experiments, which is related to his name, which means “experiments.” Bakugo’s old acquaintance Tsubasa is a possible supporter of this viewpoint.

He was a little boy with a wing abnormality, and he was Shiga’s grandson. Shiga used Tsubasa as a test subject to create the flying Nomu. This idea regarding Dr. Shiga merely verifies that Deku and his father have stronger toes, most likely All For One.

Why is Deku’s dad gone?

Who Is Deku's Dad, Hisashi Midoriya? Is He a Villain? (3)

As it was already mentioned there is little information known about Deku’s dad so we actually don’t have a canonical answer to the question as to why he is gone.

The most we get from the series is that he left his family while Deku was still a child to claim a job overseas. While we could assume that it was for a mundane reason such as better pay the fans got a lot more creative answer to the question.

One of the most popular speculations revolves around the fact that Deku’s dad is either a hero or a villain himself, or perhaps was killed by one.

Another widely accepted explanation stems from the fact that there doesn’t need to be a dramatic reason which explains his absence in the series, however, since his return to the series was confirmed this theory is unlikely to be true.
