Product description
Designed to reduce colic, gas and reflux

Newborns and babies receive all the important nutrients they need for their growth and development through breast milk. The World Health Organization (WHO), midwives and also Philips Avent recommend that mothers exclusively breastfeed until the age of 6 months in order to provide the newborn with the best nutrition.
However, there are situations when breastfeeding is not possible and mothers must resort to bottles to ensure their child's nutritional needs. It is precisely then that bottles have to meet special requirements. That's why Philips Avent developed the Anti-colic bottle.

The anti-colic bottle features aunique AirFree™ valve, which removes the air from the teat. As a result, the baby swallows less air when feeding and the occurrence of colic and discomfort is proven to be reduced.* At the same time, the AirFree™ valve prevents the formation of a vacuum in the teat and thus ensures auninterrupted flow of food.
The anti-colic bottle enables aupright feeding positionbecause the teat is always filled with milk. Even when the bottle is held horizontally.
Five suction levelswith different flow rates ensure that the bottle can also be used as the baby grows and its drinking habits change. The ribbed structure of the teatsprevents slippingand enables uninterrupted, convenient feeding.

The combination of the wide teat and the anti-colic valve is a good way to make feeding similar to breastfeeding and tummy-friendly.

Conditional recommendation. I've never tested any other specialty anti-colic bottle, so my review is modest, but the teat is...more >>rather narrow, the material is again quite solid and the tongue that has to be cleaned makes the whole thing rather stressful. FAQs
Test: Philips Avent anti-colic bottle | hebammen-testen.de? ›
Make sure the drinking hole and air valve are not blocked. If the drinking hole appears to be smaller and the baby experiences difficulty drinking, the top is probably clogged. To unclog the nipple, roll the tip of the nipple between the thumb and forefinger to loosen any build-up.
Why is my baby not getting anything out of my Avent bottle? ›Make sure the drinking hole and air valve are not blocked. If the drinking hole appears to be smaller and the baby experiences difficulty drinking, the top is probably clogged. To unclog the nipple, roll the tip of the nipple between the thumb and forefinger to loosen any build-up.
How do I know if my bottle is anti colic? ›- A valve or vent-system. Babies that ingest air bubbles as they feed may suffer from gas, reflux or colic. ...
- Slow flow nipple. ...
- Easy to clean.
Many people have reported leaking problems with the newer Avent bottles. There are a couple of factors why this is happening: The Avent system is designed to vent or let air into the bottle as baby feeds. This is achieved by having tiny slots cut into the base of the nipple.
What does the number 2 mean on Philips Avent bottle? ›0m - First flow (number 0) 0m+ - Newborn flow (number 1) 1m+ - Slow flow (number 2) 3m+ - Medium flow (number 3) 6m+ - Fast flow (number 4)
Why is bottle feeding not working? ›Wait until your baby is sufficiently hungry before feeding. Try changing the bottle size and shape, the nipple, or other aspects of the bottle to see what your baby responds to. Experiment with the temperature of the milk or formula. Breast milk is lukewarm, so make sure the bottle isn't too warm or cool.
How do you fix bottle rejection? ›- Try having someone other than mom offer the bottle. ...
- Try offering the bottle when the baby is not very hungry. ...
- Try feeding the baby in different positions. ...
- Try moving around while feeding the baby. ...
- Try allowing the baby to latch onto the bottle nipple herself rather than putting it directly into her mouth.
The anti-colic vent in the bottle nipple releases pesky pockets of air as they feed. Meanwhile, the removable airpath insert prevents vacuum build-up during a continuous latching, reducing the build-up that can cause gas, baby spit-up, and a burping baby.
Do you need to burp a baby with anti-colic bottles? ›With a bottle like Dr. Brown's® Options+™, baby will burp less because they're not taking in nearly as much air as other bottles. As long as baby is gaining weight appropriately and doesn't seem uncomfortable, burping isn't always necessary.
Can you shake anti-colic bottles? ›Avoid shaking the bottle to mix the formula, as this can add air into the milk which can increase colic symptoms.
Can you use Avent bottles without anti colic? ›
We advise you to use the AirFree vent specifically for younger babies (<4 months) with feeding issues. The AirFree vent allows your little one to manage air intake. If your baby gets older and is able to drink from the bottle without any feeding issues, you can easily use the bottle without the AirFree vent.
What is the difference between anti colic and natural Avent bottles? ›Avent makes two types of baby bottles: Anti-colic (formerly Classic+) and Natural (pictured). The big difference between the bottles is their nipples. The Natural is breast-shaped plus it has “Comfort Petals,” which are supposed to make the nipple softer and more flexible. The Classic+ has a plain nipple.
When should I stop using anti colic bottles? ›You can use anti-colic baby bottles for as long as your baby has colic. Babies start getting colic around 6 weeks old. The symptoms of colic usually decrease when a baby reaches 3 to 4 months of age. When you start to notice that colic is starting to dissipate you can stop using anti-colic bottles.
What age is Avent Level 2 for? ›The Slow Flow nipple (with the number 2 on the nipple) is recommended for babies of 1+ months old that are breastfed and bottle-fed. It has an extra soft silicone nipple. The Medium Flow nipple (with the number 3 on the nipple) is recommended for babies of 3+ months old.
Can you reuse Avent bottles for second baby? ›As long as they're not broken or warped, bottles are fine to reuse.
How often should you replace Avent baby bottles? ›It is recommended that bottles be replaced every 4-6 months.
How long should it take a baby to drink a 4 oz bottle? ›Your baby should be able to take a 3-4 oz. bottle in about 15-20 minutes. If they finish too quickly they may not feel satiated and look for more milk that they may not really need. If they are gulping the bottle, pace the feeding and interrupt the feeding for burps.
Why is my baby grunting and straining while bottle-feeding? ›Newborn grunting is usually related to digestion. Your baby is simply getting used to mother's milk or formula. They may have gas or pressure in their stomach that makes them feel uncomfortable, and they haven't learned yet how to move things through.
What does bottle refusal look like? ›There can be a range of signs that your child is struggling to take a bottle, including: Turning away from the bottle. Gagging or fussing as the bottle's nipple nears their mouth. Being unable to latch/compress the bottle's nipple and express milk.
What is silent reflux in babies symptoms? ›Babies who spit up and display symptoms of irritability are easily diagnosed with reflux, but others may not spit up at all. This is called silent reflux. Babies with silent reflux may exhibit other symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), such as fussiness or poor feeding habits.
Why is my baby clicking when bottle feeding? ›
What causes clicking? Clicking is caused whenever there is a loss of suction. This can happen both at the breast or on the bottle, and may or may not be seen in conjunction with more obvious signs of "breaking the seal" such as leaking.
Can reflux cause bottle refusal? ›A frustrated and uncomfortable baby will reject a bottle if they have difficulty sucking. Babies may develop a learned feeding aversion if they associate pain with eating. A milk protein allergy, choking, or acid reflux are common reasons a bottle-fed baby might experience pain during eating.
Do anti-colic bottles actually work? ›They will be most beneficial to babies who are upset after feeds and seem to have a lot of gas, but there's no harm in using them for a baby who doesn't have these issues. It's definitely worth having an anti-colic bottle on hand in case you need it!
How do Avent anti-colic bottles work? ›The AirFree vent is designed to help your baby swallow less air as they drink. It keeps the nipple full of milk, even when held horizontally, so your baby can drink in a more natural, upright position. Reducing the amount of air a baby ingests can help ease issues like colic, gas, and reflux.
Is spit up considered a burp? ›Spitting up is the easy flow of stomach contents out of the mouth, frequently with a burp. Spitting up doesn't involve forceful muscle contractions, brings up only small amounts of milk, and doesn't distress your baby or make them uncomfortable.
What is the difference between colic and anti colic bottles? ›Anti-Colic Bottles are designed to allow air to enter the bottle as your baby feeds. This reduces the amount of air they swallow while allowing an even flow during feedings. When using a traditional bottle, air can slip through your baby's lips and the bottles' nipple. This can build up in the stomach.
What happens if baby doesn't burp and falls asleep? ›What happens if a sleeping baby doesn't burp? If you're concerned about what happens if your baby won't burp after feeding, try not to worry. He'll likely be just fine and will end up passing the gas from the other end.
What is the best position for a colic baby to sleep? ›Though it can be tempting to place your baby on their stomach or side while sleeping in the crib, remember the only true safe sleeping position is flat on the back with no loose covers, pillows, or toys around. It's also always a good idea to talk to your baby's pediatrician regarding their colic symptoms.
Where does the anti-colic valve go when feeding? ›Where should the valve be when I'm feeding my baby? The valve will work wherever it's positioned but the best place for the valve is at the top, near your baby's nose.
Are anti-colic bottles the same as regular bottles? ›Anti Colic Bottles vs Regular Baby Bottles
How exactly do standard baby bottles differ from anti colic bottles? Their main difference comes from the design of the teats. Anti-colic bottles are specially designed to reduce the air intake during feeding time and prevent gas bubbles from forming in your baby's belly.
Do anti-colic bottles help with spit up? ›
NUK Simply Natural Baby Bottle 3-Pack
If your baby's gas comes with a side of spit-up, these bottles from NUK may help. Each one is equipped with a specially designed anti-colic air system to help repel gas and spit up. And don't worry: The system is built-in, so there are no extra parts to clean.
This is to ensure hygiene. Clean before each use. Wash and rinse thoroughly then sterilize using a Philips Avent sterilizer or boil for 5 minutes. Do not warm contents in a microwave oven as this may cause uneven heating and could scald your baby.
Is Avent the most natural way to bottle feed? ›Philips Avent Natural Baby Bottle is the most natural way to bottle feed. The wide breast-shaped nipple on the Natural bottle promotes natural latch-on so you can easily combine breastfeeding and bottle feeding. The ultra soft nipple mimics the feel of the breast.
Can you boil Avent anti-colic bottles? ›Yes, you can boil the Philips Avent Anti-colic Baby Bottles.
What is so special about Avent bottles? ›Brown's and Avent are two popular name brands known for their anti-colic baby bottles. Both brands have special designs that may help reduce the incidence of colic, gassiness, fussiness, reflux, and spit-up in your little one. They offer a wide range of baby bottle options, including ones made of glass.
Which Avent bottle is best for newborn? ›Avent Nipple Size | Baby Age | Ideal For |
---|---|---|
Newborn Nipple | 0-3 Months | Newborns (0-1M) & Breastfed Babies (0-3M) |
Slow Flow Nipple | 1-3 Months | Newborns (1-3M) & Breastfed Babies (3M+) |
Medium Flow Nipple | 3-6 Months | Babies (3M+) |
Variable Flow Nipple | 3+ Months | Different Flow Rates with the Same Nipple |
Our anti-colic valve is designed to keep air away from your baby's tummy to reduce colic and discomfort. As your baby feeds, the valve integrated into the teat flexes to allow air into the bottle to prevent vacuum build up and vents it towards the back of the bottle.
How often should I give my baby colic calm? ›One-half teaspoon (2.5mL or 50 drops) for children over 20 lbs. and one-quarter teaspoon (1.25mL or 25 drops) for babies under 20 lbs. of Colic Calm should be given whenever symptoms of colic appear, and can be repeated every 30 minutes up to a maximum of 4 doses in a 24-hour period.
How do you avoid colic bottle feed? ›- Burping. ...
- Sit your baby up. ...
- Try different teats. ...
- Avoid changing formula. ...
- Hold them. ...
- Rock your baby. ...
- Warm bath and a massage. ...
- Create a calming atmosphere.
Check. Check if the cushion and valve are firmly pushed into the pump body and that the edges are completely sealed around the rim of the pump body. The cushion, valve and diaphragm can leak air if not attached correctly. The comfort breast pump may show low suction before expressing.
How do I get my baby to take expressed bottles? ›
Try dipping the bottle teat into some expressed milk before offering it, so it tastes and smells of your breast milk. Then gently stimulate your baby's top lip with the teat to encourage her to open her mouth. Feed your baby on demand and cuddle her in a semi-upright position.
What should you do if a baby has not finished the contents of his bottle of formula? ›It's okay if they don't finish the whole bottle. Throw away any breastmilk or formula left in the bottle after 2 hours. Bacteria can grow in the leftover breastmilk or formula. It can be helpful to hold your baby upright for about 30 minutes after eating to reduce spitting up.
Why is my pump not giving enough flow? ›Probably the most common cause of flow problems is an obstruction in the line, which can easily happen at the source. The intake can easily become clogged by debris – not so much to block it up, but enough to impede the flow. Also, if you have a filter on the intake, the filter may be what's clogged.
What happens if pump suction pressure is low? ›Insufficient suction pressure.
Low pressure at the pump inlet can cause cavitation, which occurs when the liquid entering the impeller eye drops below its liquid vapor pressure and vaporizes to form bubbles. Vapor in the impeller saps pump performance.
Use a single diameter suction piping to promote stable fluid flow. Lay out the suction piping in such a way that minimizes the amount of 90-degree bends and allows for the shortest line possible. This will increase the net positive suction head available (NPSHA) and improve pump system efficiency.
Can you reuse the same baby bottle all day? ›Bottles should be cleaned after every feeding. If your baby does not finish drinking a bottle within 2 hours, throw away the unfinished formula. Germs can grow quickly if breast milk or formula is added to a partially used bottle, or if a used bottle is only rinsed, rather than cleaned.
Should you sterilize baby bottles after every use? ›Fortunately, you don't have to buy a baby bottle sterilizer to keep things sanitary. If you use bottles or pacifiers, you'll want to sterilize them before their first use and perhaps periodically thereafter, but it's not necessary to sterilize bottles after every use.
Why is mixed feeding not recommended? ›Regular mixed feeding might make it more difficult to keep breastfeeding because it can interfere with keeping up a good supply of breastmilk. So if you're thinking about supplementing with formula, it's important to talk about it first with your midwife, child and family health nurse, lactation consultant or GP.
Will my milk supply decrease when baby sleeps through the night? ›Letting your baby sleep for longer periods during the night won't hurt your breastfeeding efforts. Your growing baby can take in more milk during the day — and that, in turn, means longer stretches of sleep at night. Your milk supply will adjust to the new routine.
Why do you have to wait 30 minutes before making formula? ›Leave the water to cool in the kettle for no more than 30 minutes. Then it will stay at a temperature of at least 70C. Water at this temperature will kill any harmful bacteria. Remember to let the feed cool before you give it to your baby.
Why does formula go bad after an hour? ›
In fact, if your little one has had some of a bottle but doesn't want the rest, you should dump it within an hour. Don't put it in the fridge for later use. Milk-based products are notorious for growing bacteria. Once your baby has drunk from a bottle, bacteria is introduced and the formula shouldn't be saved.
Can babies drink cold formula? ›It's fine to give your baby room temperature or even cold formula. If your baby prefers warm formula, place a filled bottle in a bowl of warm water or run under warm water. Test the temperature by putting a couple of drops on the back of your hand or wrist. The formula should feel lukewarm — not hot.
