Time to look towards our canine companions in Animal Crossing! Today, we're ranking every dog villager in the series.
Animal Crossingis a beloved franchise of games in which players get to run around and build their own town from the ground up while inviting new animal villagers along the way.

There are multiple species of villagers and some of the most beloved are the dog villagers. People love dogs, both in video games and in real life. We've decided to rank all of the official dog villagers in the franchise.

17 Marcel
Marcel is a somewhat creepy-looking dog that is likely named for the famous French mime, Marcel Marceau.
His markings make him look like a mime, anyway. He has only appeared in two main games in the franchise and it isn't clear if he is inNew Horizons, chances are he isn't since he isn't a very popular character.
16 Mac
Mac is a bulldogvillagerwith a jock personality. People theorize that his name may be a reference to the bulldog mascot of the Mack Truck Company.
He hasn't been in that many games of the series but he has a somewhat grumpy-looking demeanor.
15 Benjamin
Benjamin is ranked lower on this list because he is kind of weird looking with his thick bushy eyebrows, yellow coloring, and his red eyes. He looks a little similar to Joey the duck but is less cute than his bird counterpart.

He also has white whiskers and bright red lips. Not many people would count this lazy villager as their favorite dog.
14 Biscuit
Biskit is another lazy dog villager and he actually does have a pretty loyal fanbase that really enjoys having him move into their towns.
Biskit is a little strange looking thanks to his white eyes but his name is definitely a reference to dog biscuits or treats one might give their pet. His starting catchphrase is also a reference to his species since he typically begins with "dawg."
13 Portia
Portia is a snooty dog villager who looks like a dalmatian. She has been in the game for a long time, appearing in all the main games, except she doesn't appear to be a part ofNew Horizons.
Snooty villagers are one of the least-liked types of villagers so that's why Portia isn't as high-rated as some of the other dog villagers who are generally much kinder.
12 Walker
Walker is a lazy dog villager that first showed up inAnimal Forestand has appeared in everygamesince, exceptNew Horizons.

He was also not included inNew Leaf. Walker definitely fits the "lazy" persona, as he even has a catchphrase of "wuh," and often looks pretty dazed, as if he exists in his own little universe.
11 Maddie
Maddie is a cute peppy dog villager who has appeared in many of the games within the franchise. Sadly, she is not included inNew Horizons, at least, not yet.
She is a brown dog with a kind demeanor and her catchphrase starts as "yippee!"
10 Butch
Butch is a cranky dog villager who looks a little similar to the Rottweiler species, which is fitting because as his name signifies, Butch is a very masculine character. He isn't necessarily a fan favorite but he has been in the franchise for a while now.
Often, Butch's house tends to be decorated in more of a modern style. His initial catchphrase is usually a variation of "ruff" or the "rowf" or barking sound dogs make.
9 Shep
Shep is a pretty chill dog villager that was first introduced in New Leaf, he also appeared in Happy Home Designer. His name comes from the fact he looks like a sheepdog, thanks to the little frill on his head that covers his eyes from view.

Sadly, it doesn't appear that Shep will be in New Horizons unless he is added in by a future update.
8 Bea
Bea is a cute normal dog villager. She has appeared in the majority of the games in the franchise except forCity Folk.
Her name is a reference to a beagle, although she doesn't necessarily look like a beagle since she is all brown with darker spots around her nose. She also has hooded eyes and her initial phrase is "bingo."
7 Bones
Bones is a pretty popular character in theAnimal Crossingseries and he has been part of all of the main games in thefranchise.
Like some of the other dogs on this list, his name is a reference to dog bones, since dogs are known to love chewing on bones. He is an all-white dog with some patches and his personality type is lazy.
6 Cherry
Cherry is a sisterly, or uchi, type villager who has become very popular with the fandom thanks to her somewhat edgy appearance and bluntness. She is a pink dog, which is fitting since her name is Cherry, although she does have a dark patch around her eye.

A lot of people got Cherry as a starting villager inNew Horizonssince players received one uchi villager and one jock player at the beginning.
5 Lucky
Lucky is an adorable lazy dog villager who has the appearance of someone in a full-body cast, complete with bandages covering him up from head-to-toe and one gleaming yellow eye. His unorthodox appearance has made him a fan-favorite.
He is named Lucky because despite being in a body cast, he's still alive. Some people like to think of him like a mummy, and he can easily add to a distinctive town theme.
4 Daisy
Fans love Daisy because she is a normal villager but she is very sweet and easy to get attached to. Her coloring matches that of a Daisy flower, as she is a pale yellow dog with small eyes and white markings.
Her typical starting catchphrase is "bow-wow," which is very fitting for a dog. Daisy has appeared in all of the games, although it doesn't look like she is inNew Horizons, unfortunately.
3 Goldie
Goldie is a normal dog villager whose coloring and name seem to suggest that she is based on the golden retriever breed of dog. She is a universal favorite in the game.

Her Japanese name translates to Caramel, which again, is in reference to her coloring. She is a very sweet villager who players have gone to great lengths to have move into their towns when possible.
2 Cookie
Cookie is easily the most popular and beloved dog villager in the franchise. A lot of Animal Crossing players eagerly await her arrival in their town or have purchased her amiibo card to ensure she eventually has a place on their island/home.
The main reason she is so beloved is due to her pink coloring and overall adorable look. It also helps that she has a peppy personality which makes her very sweet and welcoming.
1 Bonus: Isabelle
Isabelle is not actually a villager in the game but since she is such a beloved dog character it felt wrong to not include her in this list. She is essentially the unofficial mascot of the franchise, even surpassing Tom Nook.
People who don't playAnimal Crossingare still likely familiar with the adorable Isabelle who has become a mainstay in the franchise. It certainly wouldn't be the same without her.
