Welcome to our walkthroughAnimal Crossing: New Horizons. Although it doesn't look like it, Tom Nook has prepared for you a main storyline with given tasks to gradually introduce you to new game elements. At the end of the main story, you'll get the Island Designer, which you can use to freely design your island - that's when the fun really begins! A look at our solution helps to achieve this goal without any problems.

Character design and island selection

After the start of the game, you will first of all be greeted by Nepp and Haul at the airport. Enter your name and birthday.This is information that you cannot change later. Then you can design your character. TheLookand you can even change your gender at any time later using a mirror. But since it can take a while before you unlock a mirror, you should think carefully about your choice.

Next you have to decide which hemisphere you want your island to be on. The hemisphere affects the seasons on your island. In order for the seasons to match reality, you should decide on the hemisphere you actually live in.For the German-speaking area, that would be the northern hemisphere.

Then Nepp and Haul show you four island cards and you have to choose an island. There are three different island types. A river runs to the left or right of the starting area, or the starting area is in the middle and is surrounded by a river. There are also 30 different variants for each island type, which differ slightly.

Keep in mind that there is a lot going on in the starting area in the beginning as you cannot cross rivers and cannot climb to higher levels.But don't rack your brains too much, because as soon as you unlock the island designer at the end of the main story, you can completely change your island according to your wishes. It will also be possible, your house us othersto move buildings, so do not worry!

Finally, Nepp and Haul ask you what things you would take with you to a deserted island. Here you can choose what you want. It has no effect on the game.

Day 0: The first steps on your island

You only experience the choice of island and the subsequent introduction when you create a save on your console for the first time. If an island has already been created on your Nintendo Switch, you will land directly on the island without an intro.

Dodo Airlines brings you, the raccoons and two other residents to the island that you have chosen. Your two neighbors will be chosen at random, but they will always be one male resident with the Athletic personality and one female resident with the Big Sister personality.

After your arrival, you will receive a useful map and a tent from Nepp and Haul, which you must place on the island.The location determines where your house will be later, so think carefully. It can be quite handy to place the tent near the service center as you will be visiting Tom Nook often. But rather choose a place that you like best on the island.

After talking to Tom Nook you need to visit your two neighbors who are also pitching their tent. Help them decide. You can either place their tents where they are or choose a completely different location. They will then give you their tent and you can choose a new spot.

After that, everyone gathers around the campfire. Tom Nook wants to celebrate a housewarming and asks you to collect some materials. First he needs 10 branches. Branches are near trees and can be picked up with the Y button. If you shake trees (A key), branches can also fall out. Branches are not a limited resource.So you can keep shaking the same tree and new branches keep falling to the ground.

Then you should 6fruitcollect for Tom Nook.The type of fruit on your island is determined randomly. Later you can also grow the other fruits on your island if you e.g. B. received as a gift from your friends. Go to a fruit tree, shake it and collect the fruit from the ground. If you have collected 6 pieces, you can return to Tom Nook.

Finally you get a camp bed from Tom Nook. Go into your tent, select the bed in the inventory and place it in your tent. Then go to bed to end the first day. When you are asleep, K.K. will appear, announcing that after you wake up, the time in the game will move in sync with the time in reality. A notice:The following daily information only serves as an orientation for what you can do in one day and how much time you theoretically need to finish the main tasks as quickly as possible. But of course you can take as much time as you want.

Day 1: Earn Nook Miles for the moving fee

As soon as you leave the tent, Tom Nook will greet you and give you a NookPhone, which has many useful apps. After the nice gift comes the shock: because you should pay 49,800 for the move to the islandspread outpay. Since you can't raise the money at first,you can pay off the bill with 5,000 miles.

Tom Nook will also introduce you to the miles program. By completing various tasks, you will be rewarded with the new currency "Nook Miles". You will find the required 5,000 miles quickly, since there are many simple tasks at the beginning that you can finish quickly.

In addition, you will inevitably unlock further achievements as the game progresses, e.g. B. fishing, catching insects, shooting balloons, collecting instructions, etc. Once you have collected 5,000 miles, you can use them to pay off your debts to Tom Nook. Also talk to him about your own home to get your own house the next day – including 98,000 Sternis debts.

With the house building job you get access to "Nook Miles+". These are smaller tasks that can earn you miles very quickly. Tom Nook will also give you a mileage ticket that you can use for a surprise tour at the airport.You can buy more mileage tickets and other things at the Nook portal.

Day 1: Donate creatures and initiate Eugene's arrival

In parallel to collecting miles, you can pursue another task that ultimately leads toconstruction of the museumwill lead. Go to the service center after you have received the NookPhone and talk to Tom Nook to take part in his crafting course. You should craft a wobbly rod, for which you need 5x branch. You probably already have enough branches in your inventory, but if not: shake a tree a little.

Once you have made the jiggling rod, Tom Nook unlocks the handicraft instructions app and also gives you instructions for the jiggling net.Also craft the landing net with 5x branch. Further instructions e.g. for a slingshot you can buy it from Nepp.

Armed with a fishing rod and landing net, you must catch five different creatures and give them to Tom Nook. Fish in the river and in the sea to increase the probability of new onesfishto increase. If a fish has bitten, you only have to press "A" once to reel in the rod. Instead, you surrenderinsect hunting, you often have to sneak up on them quietly. This is possible if you hold down the A button with the landing net in hand.

For each creature you bring to Tom Nook, you will receive a reward - these are:

• 1st creature donated: Tom Nook unlocks the Faunapedia app.
• 2. Creature donated: You will receive the Nodding Axe, Fire Pit, Torch, Log Set, and Bird House recipes.
• 3. Creature donated: Tom Nook gives you Flower Seeds.
• 4. Creature donatedMission: You will receive the instructions for the wobbly watering can.
• 5. Creature donated: Eugen calls Tom Nook.

After you donated five creatures, Eugen decides to come to your island to open a museum. Tom Nook will give you a kit for Eugen's tent. Find a nice place on your island and set up the tent.Please note that the museum will later be located here.

Once you've set up the tent and paid off the moving fees, you've done everything that can be done in one day. Another tip: Since you can now craft the nodding axe, you should collect resources (5x hardwood, 1x iron ore) to craft a makeshift workbench.You will receive the instructions for this as a gift from a letter from Nintendo. From now on you will have to do a lot of crafting, so it is very practical if you have a workbench outside.

Day 2: Initiate construction of the museum

The next day you are the proud homeowner and Eugen has also arrived on your island. Talk to him immediately about thevaulting stick and the shovelto obtain. In order for Eugen to open the museum, you must donate 15 more creatures to him. This shouldn't be too much of a problem as you can use the jump stick to jump over rivers and explore more of your island. So you reach z. B. also a pond where you can fish new fish.

You can also use the shovelfossilsdig up, which Eugen also accepts as a donation. You will hardly miss the conspicuous markings on the floor.You should be able to find about five fossils in one day. Once you have donated enough creatures, construction of the museum begins. You can admire the new building the next day.

Day 2: Build Nook's shop

Incidentally, you can take care of the construction of a shop on the second day. As soon as your own house is built, you have to talk to Nepp in the service center, who needs the following resources for the construction:

• wood x30
• Softwood x30
• Hardwood x30
• iron orex30

To harvest wood, you must use an ax on the trees on your island.Each tree yields three materials per day– the type of wood you receive is random. Since there are enough trees on your island, the wood is collected quickly.

However, you won't be able to find the iron ore quite as quickly. There is a 34% chance of getting Iron Ore by hitting a rock on your island with an ax or shovel. However, there are only six such rocks on your island and some of them may not be accessible to you as they are on higher levels.

You can mine eight materials from a rock by hitting a rock in a row without stopping. The right technique is important here:Stand diagonally in front of a rock and dig two holes behind you, so that you cannot slip backwards when hitting.

If you want to collect all the iron ore on your own in one day, you will have to do one or more surprise tours. At the airport you can fly to random islands with mileage tickets. Tom Nook gave you a mileage ticket – you can get more in exchange for miles.On such a mile island you will find more rocks and here the probability of iron ore is even higher– it is 50%!

With a bit of luck, you can also get iron ore in gifts. So be sure to shoot all the balloons over your island. Once you have collected and handed in all the resources, you will receive a construction kit for the shop. Find a suitable place and decide where the shop should be. It's not a main quest, but you can do it laterupgrade store. You can find out how to do this in the linked guide.

Day 3: Build the first bridge

The store is ready the next day. When you enter it, you will meet Tina. From now on, she will offer clothes on random days of the week in the fairground. You must buy at least five items from her and spend 5,000 Sternis.Then, on her third visit, she will give you a Tailoring Building Kit. So always pay Tina a visit to get early access to the shop of the tailor sisters.

But that's only marginal, because it's not a main task. Instead, after building Nook's shop, you have to go to Tom Nook, the onebuild bridgewould like to allow the residents to cross the river. For this you need to get the following materials:

• Log Stake Set x4
• Solder x4
• Stein x4

You will probably already have enough stones and clay in your inventory after you have searched for iron ore. If not, mine the resources at Rock.You have to craft the tree trunk sets at a workbench. For a tree trunk post set you need 3x wood.

If you have found all the materials, you will receive a bridge construction kit from Tom Nook. Go to a bank and decide where you want to build the bridge. Make your decision dependent on which part of the island you later want to place houses for new residents. The construction of the bridge will be completed the next day.

Day 4: Three new houses

Now that you have a bridge on the island, Tom Nook wants to build new houses to attract new residents to the island. He gives you three house building kits that you have to place on the island. But that's not all, because you should also make and donate furniture. After you have set up the building kits,you can check which items are required in the construction helper box. You will also receive the appropriate building instructions from Tom Nook.

The furniture for the houses is not determined arbitrarily. For indoors, the furniture is the same for all players. However, the pieces of fruit furniture and the wreath of flowers are different. That depends on which local fruit or whichFlowergrow on your island.

The garden furniture, on the other hand, has two different sets. The game randomly determines which set of furniture you need to craft.It is a good idea to take notes or take screenshots with the console, so as not to get confused with the furniture. Alternatively, we've summarized all the furniture you need to craft in the table below.

While there are a lot of resources to collect, there's nothing you don't already know about. Work on all the stones and trees on your island and if necessary visit Mile Ticket Islands if you are still missing something. The only difficulty might be finding the flowers.These grow namely primarily on the higher levels of your island. Luckily, Tom Nook also gives you a ladder guide along with the house building kits and furniture guides. Craft them with 4x wood, softwood and hardwood each to be able to climb the cliffs to the top.

Day 5 to 7: New residents, fences and remodeling course

Once you have provided all the furniture for the three houses, you have to wait for new residents before you can continue with the next main tasks. On the following three days there will always be onenew residentmove to the island.If you met residents on a mileage ticket island and invited them to your island, these residents will become your new neighbors. Otherwise, the residents are chosen randomly.

You can also get busy building fences. Tom Nook will give you 50 standard wooden fences to beautify your island. From now on you can unlock new fences in the NookPortal with Nook Miles.

In addition, Tom Nook will familiarize you with remodeling in a course. Craft the wooden cabinet that the raccoon mentions and then talk to him again. At the workbench you can then choose a new color for the piece of furniture in order to redesign it. After that, Tom Nook will give you 50 remodel sets to do remodels.You can purchase additional remodeling sets from the store for 600 Sternis each.

Day 8 to 10: New service center and Melinda's arrival

As soon as the three houses have found an owner - there are now five residents on your island - Tom Nook will announce in his daily speech that the service center is being expanded. But construction won't start until tomorrow, so the new service center won't be ready until the third day. Until then, there are no other main tasks.

With the expanded service center, new options are available to you at Tom Nook. From now on you can build bridges and stairs to increase comfort.You can also relocate all buildings and customize your house, by e.g. B. theroof color changes. Moving a building always takes a day.

Since Tom Nook can no longer process all requests himself, he got help:Melindacome to your island! You can complain to her about residents whoChange island melodyand redesign the island flag. Melinda will also take over the daily announcements from now on.

Day 10 to 12: Build campsite

Talk directly to Tom Nook in the new service center and he will tell you about his new plan - namely Project K!Tom Nook wants the famous K.K. Invite Slider to the island for a concert. For this, however, your island must become better known and you must attract new residents.

In order for you to succeed, you first need a campsite where visitors can stop. Talk to Tom Nook again and he'll send you instructions for a Campground Building Kit. In order to be able to craft this, you need the following resources:

• 15x wood
• 15x softwood
• 15x hardwood
• 15x Iron Ore

We have already mentioned several times in our solution how you procure the material. You probably already have enough of them in your inventory anyway. Once you have made the construction kit, you have to find a nice place for it on your island and place the construction kit.

Now you have to wait until the next day for the campsite to be built. But that's all you can do on the new day. You have to wait another day and Melinda will tell you during her speech that a visitor has pitched his tent at the campsite.

Go into the tent and invite the visitor to your island. This resident does not need further convincing and will move directly to your island.If you later attract other residents to your island in this way, you will need more convincing. Tell Tom Nook the good news and he'll be happy to give you a home building kit. Decides where to build the house and the resident will move in the next day.

Day 13+: K.K. invite to the island

Now you can start with the last and longest main task. So that K.K. comes to your island, you must meet two conditions: your island must have at least eight residents and your island must have a rating of three stars.

Eight residents received

Since you already have six residents, you need two more. At Tom Nook you can now sell land for 10,000 Sternis. Ergo: You receive a house construction kit and place a home for a new resident - you have to do that twice. After that, you have to wait for new residents to visit the campsite. After a visit, a new visitor can appear on the third day at the earliest. However, the probability of this is very low (5%). With each additional day the probability increases –from day 6 it is 20%.

If youamiibo figures or cardsowns, you can also use it to invite residents to the campsite at the NookPortal. If you have the appropriate amiibo, you can even bring your favorites to the island.

Get 3 star rating

You can ask Melinda what rating your island currently has. With "development" and "landscape" there are two criteria by which your island is rated. The overall rating is based on the lower rating. So: If your development is at 5-star level, while your landscape does not deserve more than 1 star, you will receive a 1-star rating.

To improve your scenery, you should...

• … plant a lot of trees.
• … plant many different flowers.
• … make and place many different pieces of furniture.

To improve your development, you should...

• … build all important buildings (museum, tailor shop, shop upgrade)
• … build many bridges.
• ... build many staircases.

In addition, you should pull the weeds on your island and avoid chaos (too much furniture next to each other).. There should also not be too many small items (e.g. branches, stones, shells, etc.) on the floor, otherwise this will be considered disorder. KK's concert: The end is just the beginning

When you meet the two criteria and Melinda finally rates your island with 3 stars, you will receive a message from K.K. Slider excited about your island. Tom Nook invites K.K. immediately to your island for a concert. The next day, K.K. and delight you and your residents on the fairground with a song.The Animal Crossing: New Horizons credits appear.
